Another polio case reported from Punjab; the provincial score jumps to nine

LAHORE: A recent case of polio was reported on Wednesday from Punjab province, raising the provincial score of the crippling disease to nine this year,

According to details, the polio case appeared in Rahim Yar Khan in a 21-year-old girl.

The crippling disease affected the hands and legs of the girl, whose family moved to the Sadiqabad area in Rahim Yar Khan three months ago.

The father of the victim works as a laborer. The new case raised the national polio score to 72.

It is important to mention here that due to an increase in polio cases in the country, the federal government has decided to launch a four-day anti-polio campaign in the country from 21 to 25 September.

According to sources in the Federal Ministry of Health, the campaign would be launched in all four provinces – Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) – and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit Baltistan.

Sources in the health ministry said there were two catch-up days during the campaign aimed at vaccinating children left behind during the ride.

A total of 39.6 million children administered polio drops during the campaign, and they added that 270,000 polio workers would participate in the ride.

Strict compliance with the standard management system (SOPs) will be ensured following the corona virus outbreak.
